What to Expect

A complete guide to your first visit and what happens during a session.

Your first psilocybin experience at Alma Dose is carefully structured to support your wellbeing at every stage. Here’s what the journey looks like.

Before You Arrive

About a week before your session, you’ll complete our intake questionnaire and have a phone conversation with your facilitator. This helps us understand your intentions, answer questions, and ensure you feel prepared.

We’ll send you preparation guidelines covering:

  • Dietary recommendations for the days before
  • Sleep and rest suggestions
  • What to bring (and what to leave at home)
  • How to think about intention-setting

The Day Of

Plan to be with us for 5-7 hours. We recommend clearing your schedule for the rest of the day — and ideally the following morning as well.

When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into our reception space. There’s no rush. We’ll offer tea, answer any last questions, and guide you through a brief intention-setting conversation.

During Your Session

Once you feel ready, you’ll move into your session space. It’s designed for comfort: soft lighting, natural materials, comfortable seating or lying space, and carefully considered acoustics.

Your facilitator remains present throughout — not leading or directing, but available. They’re trained to support whatever emerges, whether that’s profound stillness, emotional release, or anything in between.

The acute effects typically last 4-6 hours. You’ll have access to water, light snacks, blankets, eye masks, and curated music if desired.

What People Experience

Every journey is unique. Some common experiences include:

  • Altered perception of time and space
  • Heightened emotional awareness
  • Visual phenomena (patterns, colors, distortions)
  • A sense of connection or unity
  • Challenging emotions or memories surfacing
  • Profound insights or realizations
  • Deep relaxation or stillness

There’s no “right” way to experience psilocybin. Whatever arises is valid.

Coming Down

As the effects begin to fade, you’ll have time to rest and reorient. Your facilitator will guide gentle conversation, helping you begin to make sense of what you encountered.

Before You Leave

You’ll receive integration resources and discuss follow-up support options. We strongly recommend not driving yourself — arrange transportation in advance.

The days following your session are often rich with continued processing. Many people find journaling, time in nature, or quiet reflection helpful.
